An expression that in many respects could stand for the internal Memmert anniversary celebration for the one thousandth VO vacuum oven. Punctually at midday on 13th February 2008, the birthday boy was ready, dressed in a red ribbon in the MEMMERT training centre. Carefully polished to a bright shine, it was the focus of amusing anecdotes, entertaining accolades and a number of unusual experiments.
In the year 2000, the Memmert VO Vacuum oven was first introduced to the market on the occasion of the laboratory trade fair, Achema – a genuine innovation in laboratory technology. The technological advantages, such as the thermoshelf direct heating and the digital vacuum control, with which it was equipped in over two years of development, are still unique, even today.During the small celebration, Angelika Henneberg (sales), Josef Rister and Ralf Achtnicht (both from development) then told of the many challenges involved in the implementation of the technological innovations.
This was followed by the highlight: the VO vacuum oven was to be put to the test, demonstrating its property of drying heat-sensitive materials particularly gently, in a number of eccentric experiments. All kinds of edible materials were placed in a vacuum behind the safety glass door. The employees gathered round were able to see how a marshmallow suddenly grew to three times its size, only to collapse again when the vacuum chamber was ventilated, without bursting in the chamber, as some had feared. Tasty slices of apple and banana were dried within minutes, and were then eaten enthusiastically and with much enjoyment. A truly successful anniversary, and a confirmation for all colleagues that the Memmert philosophy of in-house development and manufacture will continue to be a guarantee of the highest product quality.
The next spectacular presentation of a new Memmert appliance is lined up for the Analytica 2008 in Munich. But that is another story, which today will not yet be revealed.
