For the second time after 2018 we had organised the Memmert fan mile at kilometres 0.6 and 41.4 of the Challenge race track and like last year it was a great celebration – or you could allow yourself a few relaxing minutes break in our deck chairs. Traditionally, many Memmertians are on their feet all day long during the Challenge Roth. The Memmert fan mile was also a welcome meeting point for all our athletes and helpers as well as passing spectators. It is quite a hair-raising experience to cheer on the shattered runners 600 metres before the finish line and to give them a bit more momentum on their way to the stadium.
Our relay ladies Theresa Baumgärtel, Sophia and Christine Ramsauer were clear that they wanted to climb the podium and they made it! In the end they were about half an hour behind the winning team, but that didn't stop them celebrating 2nd place. With a total time of 09:16:01 hours, they were one of only three women's teams that had stayed under 10 hours.
At the end our single starter Marina Sauer was second in the district with her 45th place in the strong women's field. Congratulations to all of our athletes!
For Laszlo Abendroth from Memmert’s trade partner Aisatec Abendroth from Bolivia, the Challenge Roth is simply the "best triathlon in the world". And so he has been joining Team Memmert on the Challenge weekend for years to enjoy the unique atmosphere along the track and in the stadium. In 2019 he competed for the second time as a single starter and achieved a very good time of under 11 hours.
However, the Challenge premiere of our Customisation relay team almost fell through as Marathon runner Simon Messthaler dropped out one week before the race. Heike Janousch was kind enough to stand in for him and so Florian Ortner and Felix Weisler received the Finisher Medal for their first time. The start in the original line-up is already fixed for next year.
We congratulate them and all the other starters from Team Memmert on their performance. Triathlon is only for people with endurance, courage and passion and that's what they all showed again – impressively.
