Team Memmert on Tour Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten

The Team Memmert athletes carry our colours into the world. Last weekend, at the Austria Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten, 5 of our athletes started in a Memmert jersey.

Team Memmert was amongst the best with Dorian Wagner. He finished 4th place overall after a quite irregular competition.  Due to bad weather conditions (outdoor temperatures were a freezing 5°C), the organisers had to cancel the swim start turning the triathlon into a duathlon. This was premiere even for our professional athlete… The cold wind was blowing upon our boys' and girls' helmets at up to 50 km/h and presented an additional challenge for each and everyone on their bicycles. However, since Dorian is very fit in his field, he started as 6th on the running course and finished his 4th Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten with a remarkable 4th place. He collected his first points for the best-known and hardest endurance competition – the Ironman Hawaii. The 29-year-old professional triathlete is to collect further points in Frankfurt, Berlin and Wiesbaden. We will keep our fingers crossed for you, Dorian! Keep on!

Bianca Schubert participated for the first time in an event like this – 1.9 km swim, 90.1 km bike and 21.1 km run. So far, she has only started for shorter distances. This season, however, she plans to do the supreme discipline: the CHALLENGE 2013 in Roth, a long-distance triathlon with almost twice as long courses in all three disciplines. The start in St. Pölten is considered a preparation for the CHALLENGE 2013 Roth, and the results motivate for “more”… With a second place in her age group, the 23-year-old proved to be in very good shape. She secured herself a starting position at the Ironman 70.3 triathlon world championship in Las Vegas this autumn but declined it… This year, her priorities are given to other things. Dear Bianca, team Memmert is happy to accompany you and wishes you good luck for your future competitions!

Matthias Grosser also started into this year’s season in Lower Austria. He really dreaded the winter-like temperatures on the day of the Ironman days before. He was really relieved when he heard that he did not have to jump into the 14°C cold water. This way, he was able to use his strength on the bicycle and for the run. He needed them especially on the bicycle in order not to be blown off his saddle. He crossed the finish line after 4 hours in 18th place in his age group. Matthias, good luck to you, too, for 2013!
