Social engagement is more than an obligation for us – it is an essential part of our identity as a family-owned business. Helping people in need and actively supporting where help is urgently required is a matter close to our hearts.
In 2024, we continue our commitment: with a variety of projects that help people in difficult situations both globally and regionally, and promote the strength of our society. A significant amount has been donated – a contribution that is intended to positively change many lives.
Our company sees itself as an active part of the community. "We believe in taking responsibility and shaping a better future together," explains Christiane Riefler, owner and managing director of Memmert. "In these challenging times, we want to show that sustainable actions and social engagement can – and must – go hand in hand."
As a global company, it is only consistent that we also engage in charitable causes globally. One example of our international engagement is our support for „Ärzte ohne Grenzen“ (Doctors Without Borders).
Doctors Without Borders is an international network providing medical emergency aid in over 70 countries worldwide. Every person has the right to healthcare, which is often unavailable due to conflicts or disasters. The organization provides about ten million free treatments annually for people who are destitute, unable to feed themselves or their children, or who are fleeing violence. Sick and injured people are rescued in emergencies, and urgently needed food, medicines, and general relief supplies are made available. Every person receives exactly the support they need, regardless of religion, culture, or political beliefs. Memmert fully supports this commitment and wants to set a symbol for greater humanity, compassion, and solidarity.
The region where we live and work is particularly important to us. Here, where our employees are deeply rooted, we want to make a tangible difference. "Supporting regional projects is particularly close to our hearts. It is our way of giving something back to the community," says Christiane Riefler.
By supporting regional associations – from sports to cultural projects – we strengthen societal cohesion and primarily offer children and young people the opportunity to actively and meaningfully spend their free time.
A special highlight in our regional responsibility is the acquisition of comfort teddy bears, which provide children with comfort in difficult moments and help alleviate their fear. These comforters may accompany the children during examinations and treatments. Of course, the children can also take the teddy bears home with them after their crisis. They are also intended to help children process the experience at home.
Statement from an emergency doctor: "These 'COMFORTERS' are a calming remedy with no side effects, and they take away the trauma of an accident and the fear of the hospital from injured children!"
