milestones in temperature control technology

2023 was the 90th anniversary of the founding of the company Memmert in Schwabach. The perfect excuse to do a little detective work and to continue the company's history. The culture of our company was characterised by the founder, Willi Memmert.

His innovativeness, courage, and global approach to business were exemplary.  He led fulfilled employees who were always encouraged to raise the bar. All have carried into present-day business practices.

From the very beginning, Memmert innovations and products set the standard in temperature control technology.

What began over six decades ago with the then highly precise mechanical controller and the decentralised heating concept, is being resolutely continued with the first in-house developed electronic controller, the first vacuum drying oven with digital pressure control and the use of the revolutionary Peltier technology. In the new Millennium, user-friendliness, ease of programming and communication are focuses of development. With Generation 2012 appliances, Memmert continues its technological leadership in these fields.

The 1950's: The ground-breaking mechancial controller

The sterilisers and ovens, especially the processing of the rounded doors, is a master achievement in craftsmanship.

The high-precision mechanical controller is just as revolutionary as the new heating concept: the inner chamber consists of deep-drawn swages behind which the heating coils are inserted decentrally. 

The 1960's: Highly modern automated production

The potential of automation was recognised at an early stage and deployed for an economical and variable production.

Bending machines now make possible the insertion of angular doors; the casings, in accordance with contemporary styles, are painted in pastel shades.

Water baths complete the ever growing range of products.

The 1970's: The stainless steel era begins

Aluminium is now replaced by high-grade recyclable stainless steel for the inner chamber and casing. Customers benefit from more stability, the greatest possible hygiene and ease of cleaning. From 1974, with the new, highly modern production in Büchenbach, it is also possible to produce specially customised products economically.

The 1980's: Even setting the standard in design

A completely new design with an outer casing made of robust, structured stainless steel. The operating displays provide new convenience with their visual status displays, and later with digital temperature display. The doors are decoupled thermically from the outside and heating elements are protected from moisture by the closed swages.

The 1990's: The first electronic controller on the market

An absolute first in temperature control technology: as one of the first manufacturers worldwide, Memmert adds in-house developed electronic PID controllers to its range of products. With electronics production taking place in-house, the controllers are subject to the highest quality requirements. 

The 2000's: The technology leadership is being continued

The introduction of vacuum ovens with digital pressure control and cooling incubators with Peltier technology in the year 2000 are prominent milestones in temperature control technology. Just as extraordinary is the noble design of Generation 2003, a combination of glass and stainless steel. Now with Peltier technology, Memmert is still one step ahead. The HPP constant climate chamber with humidity control is presented at the Analytica 2008. In 2009, the Peltier cooling unit for waterbaths follows.

The 2010's: The next generation appliance sets new standards

In 2011, Memmert extended the market leadership for temperature control appliances with Peltier technology with the optional light module for the HPP 108 constant climate chamber. In the same year, the ICH climate chamber for stability testing in accordance with ICH Q1A and ICH Q1B option 2 was introduced. The next milestone followed at the ACHEMA 2012: Memmert introduced the new Generation 2012 of its heating ovens, incubators, sterilisers, Peltier-cooled incubators, constant climate chambers and cooled storage incubators. The concept of intuitive operation and clear display of all parameters, the optimisation of the door lock and easier programming with the new software AtmoCONTROL is awarded the iF product design award 2013 in the category medicine/health + care.
